In his opening speech, Mr. Ho Ka Ki, Assistant Commissioner for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that traditional Chinese medicine has played a significant role in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of COVID-19, benefiting the general public. He thanked CityU PH for promoting this project and sharing anti-epidemic experience and achievements with the public. Dr. Ng Chi Sun, Assistant Commissioner for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development, and Dr. Cheng Chi Yan, Director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Fund, were also in attendance.
Professor Olivier Sparagano, Acting Head of PH, emphasizes that the safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is of paramount importance in its development. With ongoing in-depth research into the safety of TCM drugs, their efficacy has gradually been recognized internationally in recent years, suggesting a broader future for TCM development.
Prof. Ming Wai-kit (PH) also points out that the visibility and credibility of TCM have markedly improved during the current pandemic. The promotion of TCM achievements in epidemic prevention offers an excellent opportunity to enhance public understanding and trust in TCM through public health-related education.
The exhibition highlights the close relationship between traditional Chinese medicine and public health by focusing on four areas: "Traditional Chinese Medicine and COVID-19", "The Historical Significance of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Public Health", "Traditional Chinese Medicine and Non-communicable Disease Management", and "The Future Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong". The goal is to deepen public understanding and recognition of traditional Chinese medicine and encourage more citizens to consider it as an alternative treatment option for diseases.
PH will launch a series of public lectures on the theme of "The Role of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Public Health" to further promote understanding of modern traditional Chinese medicine.
