Professor George Fu Gao is a Senior Fellow at the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (CityUHK), a Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the former Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. As an elected member of CAS and a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences Professor Gao has published over 350 papers in prestigious journals such as Cell, Nature, and Science. Apart from his research on the mechanisms of interspecies transmission of emerging pathogens and molecular immune recognition of pathogens (e.g. HIV, Influenza viruses, MERS, and Ebola), Professor Gao has also played a critical role in global public health strategies, notably leading efforts during the COVID-19 outbreak.
We are confident that this seminar will enable CityUHK students to gain firsthand knowledge from Professor Gao, connect with fellow students and professionals passionate about public health, and enhance their research and analytical skills through exposure to cutting-edge science.
