Celebrating the 30th Anniversary: Innovating into the Future CityUHK reports a healthy financial status
The Annual Report for 2023/24 released today (24 December) by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), titled “Innovating into the Future”, reaffirms the University’s commitment to revitalising the higher education sector and improving society as a young and innovative university.
Under the leadership of Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor, CityUHK stands at the forefront of formulating and implementing an innovative higher education agenda. Initiatives such as the new Institute of Digital Medicine, the College of Computing and the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science together enable the swift transition of research into the development of innovative solutions to global challenges, especially sustainable development issues, which will ultimately benefit local and global communities.
In addition, CityUHK recorded a positive financial performance of HK$175 million in the fiscal year 2023/24. This achievement can be attributed to improved interest and investment returns, an increase in government subventions, growth in tuition and other fees income from master’s programmes, and strategic spending on staff recruitment and research support. These efforts position the University for continued success and competitiveness in the higher education landscape.
“The University will continue to adopt a prudent cost management approach and prioritise resources to pave the way for future growth,” Mr Charles Chin Ying-on, Treasurer of CityUHK, concluded.
