Potential for new opportunities explored during a visit to CityUHK by Darwin College, University of Cambridge

A delegation from Darwin College, University of Cambridge, was warmly welcomed by members of the senior management team at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 11 March for discussions on potential collaborations and strengthening ties between the two institutions.
The delegation, comprising Dr Michael Rands, Master of Darwin College and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and Ms Fiona Duffy, Development Director at Darwin College, met with CityUHK representatives including Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President, Professor Yue Chee Yoon, Dean of Graduate Studies, Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, Professor Kenneth Leung Mei-yee, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (SKLMP), Professor Christine Huang Yi-hui, Head and Chair Professor in the Department of Media and Communication, and Ms Helen Lam, Deputy Director of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies.


Discussions highlighted potential collaborations such as the feasibility of establishing a research master’s scholarship programme and engaging Fellows of Darwin College in CityUHK’s Distinguished Visiting Professors Scheme. Professor Yue introduced the background and latest developments of CityUHK, while Professor Chan, Professor Leung and Professor Huang provided overviews of their respective college, school and department, fostering a deeper understanding of CityUHK’s academic and research strengths. The Darwin College delegation also visited the School of Energy and Environment and the SKLMP, gaining insights into CityUHK’s cutting-edge research.
This latest visit builds on the deepening partnership between CityUHK and the University of Cambridge, which now includes various MoUs and collaborative agreements of different academic fields, reflecting CityUHK’s commitment to accelerating global academic and scientific research collaborations with leading institutions worldwide.
Established in 1964, Darwin College is the first exclusively postgraduate college at the University of Cambridge and was the first to admit both women and men. Offering a broad range of postgraduate degrees, the College’s mission aligns strongly with CityUHK’s aspirations to inspire innovative initiatives that respond to global challenges.
