A delegation from Goertek visits CityUHK
A delegation from Goertek Inc. (Goertek) visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 19 December. The two sides discussed establishing a strategic partnership, with plans to carry out comprehensive industry-academia collaboration in different locations, such as Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Qingdao, covering talent development, student employment, internships, research cooperation, and the establishment of scholarships.
The delegation was led by Mr Garth Gao, Senior Vice President of Goertek. Its members included Mr Chuanyi Kang, General Manager of the South China Platform; Mrs Nicole Xu, Director of Talent Allocation; and Mr Jason Zhuang, Manager of College Cooperation. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Professor Lu Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK and Executive President of CityUHK (Dongguan); Professor Dong Zhaoyang, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Ms Sng Jing Li, Director of the Office of the President; and Ms Qiao Mu, Executive Officer of the Office of the Vice-President (Mainland Strategy).
Professor Lu thanked the delegation for visiting CityUHK and stated that the two parties shared the same vision, emphasising that CityUHK is committed to developing students’ skills and actively engaging with industry to advance science and technology in Hong Kong. This year, the College of Engineering at CityUHK and the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education will work together to explore the development of innovative STEAM programmes and activities for the advancement of gifted students through the CityUHK EE Join Lab Scheme, initiated by the Department of Electrical Engineering. He said he is looking forward to strengthening cooperation with Goertek in the future, providing valuable development opportunities for CityUHK students, and fostering better connections between academia and industry.
Goertek, founded in 2001, is a global technology innovation enterprise. It was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2008. The company primarily engages in the research and development, manufacturing and sales of precision components such as acoustics, optics, microelectronics, and precision structural parts. Additionally, it focuses on smart hardware including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), smart headphones, smart wearables, smart home devices, and high-end equipment. Goertek has established core competitiveness in multiple fields.
The delegation also visited the Department of Electrical Engineering laboratories to see how CityUHK nurtures students to conduct impactful research and promotes the transfer of cutting-edge technologies for application in both the manufacturing and service industries.
