CityUHK Singapore Alumni Chapter holds its inauguration ceremony
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is dedicated to fostering a connected alumni community both locally and internationally. Currently, CityUHK has several alumni chapters in different cities, aiming to enhance the alumni's sense of belonging to the University and to strengthen their ongoing support for their alma mater.
On 3 January, the Alumni Relations Office (ARO) at CityUHK officially established the CityUHK Singapore Alumni Chapter to further strengthen the alumni community, foster connections, and create opportunities for networking and collaboration among alumni living in Singapore.
Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, along with the University management team, joined over 70 participants including alumni and guests in Singapore and from other cities, to celebrate the establishment of the Chapter at the inauguration ceremony. In his speech, President Boey expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the ExCo Members of the Singapore Chapter for their dedication to the Chapter, adding that their efforts will undoubtedly strengthen the alumni network in Singapore.
President Boey also took the opportunity to introduce the latest developments of the University to the attending guests and thank all the alumni for their continued support for the University. He encouraged all alumni to actively engage with one another, share their experience and contribute to the CityUHK community.
Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityUHK, delivered a speech at the ceremony, sending his heartfelt congratulations to the new Chapter, adding that the Chapter represented not only a milestone in the University’s alumni relations but also a valuable opportunity for collaboration and connections.
Dr Anna Lau Pui-yi, Chairman of the Singapore Alumni Chapter, said that the establishment of the Chapter reflects the unity and strength of the alumni community in Singapore and the surrounding regions. “It is important to maintain a strong relationship among alumni, especially outside Hong Kong. We need this network to support each other when living abroad.”
Dr Lau’s journey with CityUHK spans her Bachelor, MPhil and PhD studies in Electrical Engineering. She is also a passionate alumna who contributes to the University. “CityUHK is more than a place where I earned my degrees,” she said. When she was an undergraduate, she received full support from her classmates and professors to submit a project to an international conference in Canada. Ultimately, she successfully attended the conference which was an invaluable experience for her and allowed her to experience the unique charm of CityUHK. She feels CityUHK is a place that offers unique opportunities and encouragement. She believes it is important to pass on the spirit of CityUHK to other alumni and the next generation, as she received tremendous support during her time at the University.
She also shared the vision and mission of the Chapter, such as inviting alumni to host professional talks, connecting with other Alumni Chapters in neighbouring cities, and organising different types of activities for alumni in Singapore. The aim is to enhance the sense of belonging of the alumni to CityUHK, adding that alumni can also learn more about the latest developments of the University through various activities.
