CityUHK holds New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held a New Year’s Day flag-raising ceremony on 1 January. Mr Michael Ngai, who took up the appointment of Chairman of the Council of CityUHK today, together with Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President, presided over the flag-raising ceremony in University Circle.
The Ceremony was attended by about 200 members of the University community, including Mr Charles Chin Ying-on, Treasurer of the Council; several Council members, namely, Mr David Ho Chi-hoo, Mr William Khoo Wun-fat, Dr Raymond Leung Siu-hong, Mr Robert Lui Chi-wang, Mr Justin Wong Tak-ho, Ms Grace Yu Ho-wun, Mr Li Guangda, and Professor Kevin Downing, Secretary to the Council; Court members, namely, Dr Gary Cheng Faat-ting and Professor Albert Ip Yuk-keung; members of the CityUHK Foundation Board of Governors, namely, Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun and Mr Benjamin Kwok Chan-yiu; and management, staff and student representatives. The national, regional and University flags were raised to welcome the new year. The Flag-raising Team, comprising CityUHK students, carried out the ceremony.
Mr Ngai said, “CityUHK has achieved remarkable accomplishments in the past year in teaching, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Our university rankings have continued to rise, and we have actively expanded our collaborative relationships with global academic and industry partners, leading interdisciplinary research developments. Additionally, the grand opening of CityUHK (Dongguan) in September last year marked a milestone in cooperation between Dongguan and Hong Kong in promoting higher education collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Looking forward in the new year, CityUHK will continue to pursue excellence, leverage its strengths, and have a positive impact on society through innovative research and nurturing young talent who are committed to the nation and have a global perspective."
