CityUHK Undergraduate Info Day 2024 draws over 24,000 visitors reaching a record high
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held its Undergraduate Info Day on 5 October, attracting over 24,000 visitors, reaching a record high. Nearly 200 activities were arranged for students and parents. Exhibitions about the nine Flagship Programmes and decorations regarding the collaboration between CityUHK and the University of Cambridge emerged as popular photo spots. Students and parents were able to experience the international campus life and unique university culture of CityUHK through their fruitful visit.
The event kicked off with an admissions talk for JUPAS and non-JUPAS students, offering information about entrance requirements, application procedures, strategies for selecting programmes and scholarships to those who are interested in embarking on their academic journey at CityUHK. The inspirational, interactive and innovative learning opportunities at the University were also introduced during the talk, and the students were encouraged to explore fields beyond academics through innovative learning. In partnership with top global universities, CityUHK has introduced the Flagship Programmes, which will be expanded to nine programmes in the next academic year. The talk also introduced the features and requirements of these Flagship Programmes.
CityUHK is committed to expanding global collaboration to create more exchange opportunities for its students. Students enrolled in the Flagship Programmes will have the opportunity for overseas academic and research exchanges in top global universities, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Cornell University, University of Toronto and Columbia University. The audience was very interested in the Flagship Programmes and actively asked questions during the talk.
Decorations placed outside at the Run Run Shaw Library and the Yeung Kin Man Academic Building emulated the distinctive architecture of the University of Cambridge, highlighting the collaboration between CityUHK and the University of Cambridge. This year, the two universities signed several Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) that focus on various types of collaboration in academics and research. Both parties aim to explore opportunities for education, research development and commercialisation between CityUHK’s College of Engineering and Cambridge’s Department of Engineering. Additionally, the MoUs foster collaborative research and development between CityUHK’s College of Science and the University of Cambridge’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. CityUHK students will have the opportunity to study at Lucy Cavendish College for one year as part of their undergraduate programme.
CityUHK also hosted Parents’ Receptions on Undergraduate Info Day. Professors and students from the Flagship Programmes of various colleges were invited to share the programme features. The participating parents interacted with college representatives to learn more about the programme features, entrance requirements, scholarships and financial aids. The campus atmosphere was enthusiastic, with parents actively involved in preparing for their children’s post-secondary education.
Hede, a Form 6 student, who is taking Visual Arts as one of her DSE elective subjects, is interested in the programmes offered by the School of Creative Media. She hopes to enrol in the School to improve her artistic sense and creativity, and to learn more about and utilise new media. In addition to studying, Hede said she is interested in overseas exchange opportunities. Creative Arts and Technology Excellence (CREATE), one of the new Flagship Programmes, seems to be a perfect fit for her.
The decorations showcasing the collaboration between CityUHK and the University of Cambridge were well-received by the visitors. DSE candidate and Form 6 student Iori is considering studying at a local university. If given the opportunity, he would like to participate in an exchange programme at a top overseas institution like the University of Cambridge to experience the learning atmosphere at a world-class overseas university.
