University Grants Committee members visit CityUHK
University Grants Committee (UGC) members visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 11 January, where they met with University management, faculty members and students and gained valuable insights into the University's latest advancements.
Mr Tim Lui, Chairman of UGC, was joined by over 20 UGC members and Secretariat staff. They were warmly received by Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President, Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President, Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise), Professor Li Wen Jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy), Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement), Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice-President (Administration), Professor Cheng Shuk-han, Associate Vice-President (Research), Professor Wang Jianping, Associate Provost (Quality Assurance and Accountability), and Professor Isabel Yan Kit-ming, Associate Provost (Student Life).
President Boey thanked UGC for its support for the University and welcomed its members to CityUHK.
In the morning, the UGC members visited the CityUHK Farm and were introduced to the Farm’s state-of-the-art technologies and teaching facilities, as well as its sustainable and environmentally friendly operations, which promote veterinary medicine under the One Health concept – the collective effort to champion the health of humans, animals and the environment.
During the afternoon, the UGC members were guided on a campus tour, during which they visited the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves, the Hong Kong Branch of National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Centre and the Built-informatics and Smart Cities Cluster.
The UGC members explored an engaging exhibition at CityUHK, which showcased a wide array of innovative teaching and learning aids, research deliverables and products from start-ups supported by HK Tech 300. The UGC members also had face-to-face encounters with about 40 faculty members and 50 students from different colleges, schools and departments, which provided them with a deeper understanding of CityUHK's academic and research accomplishments, as well as its vibrant student community and enriching learning environment.
