New platform details CityU’s stand against pandemic
Leading by example, the response at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) to Covid-19 has been quick, comprehensive, and creative.
Under the leadership of President Way Kuo, a new online platform offers a full account of all the measures taken to safeguard against the pandemic and ensure that, despite the challenges, it has been business as usual.
The webpage, titled “Standing Against the Pandemic”, features our four main responses: CityU-Learning; measures protecting the health of staff and students; research on preventing the spread of the virus; and news and information about tackling the virus that CityU has disseminated to the public.
During the outbreak, staff worked incredibly hard and with a huge amount of creativity to ensure that teaching and research continued as scheduled. Our online platform CityU-Learning was launched within days of the decision to suspend face-to-face classes. We were the first university in Hong Kong, and probably in the world, to roll out a new campus-wide, real-time, online learning platform.
The safety of students and staff has remained our top priority throughout this public health crisis. Our comprehensive anti-virus measures include flexible work arrangements, checking people’s body temperature at the main entrances, and providing masks and hand rub. We wholeheartedly thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors for facilitating our operations.
Additionally, by sharing professional knowledge and expertise, CityU is helping to tackle the pandemic. Our interdisciplinary researchers from fields as diverse as veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, data science and building technology are working on a variety of methods and solutions such as public health strategies and measures for preventing the spread of the virus, thereby identifying ways to safeguard public health.
By responding swiftly our experts have kept the public informed about developments, and kept our staff and students safe.
