The key to future success? Soulware!
The President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) officiated at the speech days for four secondary schools in May and June.
Professor Way Kuo presented certificates and awards and shared his key to success.
The speech days for Jockey Club Ti-I College, Caritas Fanling Chan Chun Ha Secondary School, Fukien Secondary School, and Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School were held on 18, 19, 26 May and 15 June respectively.
In his addresses, Professor Kuo said the possession of a degree and the ability to master different languages did not necessarily lead to success.
“In addition to hardware and software, we need ‘soulware’, which is a kind of mindset. At a time when information is proliferating, critical thinking is needed to make use of knowledge for the well-being of society,” he explained.
Professor Kuo also shared that Mr Harsh Agrawal, an alumnus of CityU’s School of Creative Media, was part of the animation team behind the film Coco that won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature this year.
When Harsh studied at CityU, he joined an interdisciplinary expedition to Vietnam where he produced artworks inspired by the unique jungle caves there.
His story is a good example of how CityU’s curriculum is designed to encourage students to explore, innovate and provide opportunities to create new knowledge for a better society, explained Professor Kuo.
