CityU academic named Fellow of Royal Society of Canada
Professor Wang Quan, Chair Professor of Structural Mechanics in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) due to his contributions to the applications of energy harvesting, structural health monitoring and repair, smart materials and structures, nano-materials in composites and medical device.
His RSC citation says that Professor Wang “invented, formalized, and applied accurate structural health monitoring and structural repair methods through his pioneering work in smart materials and wavelets”.
In addition, he has solved how to monitor highly voluminous nanomaterials used in civil, mechanical, aerospace engineering applications, and solved this problem through the application of nonlocal continuum theory. His advances have also contributed to the use of smart materials to harvest energy from ambient vibration.
