Research for solar energy generation is one of the main focuses of HKICE, which is rapidly booming and is expected to lead the growth in global renewable capacity. Competing/ complementing with Si and CdTe-based solar cells, the printable organic and perovskite solar cells are promising in providing high power conversion efficiencies and low energy costs than current PV technologies. Our research spans fundamental and applied material and device investigations, including theory/simulation, new material explorations, smart device configurations, device upscaling, stability/environmental testing, etc. With different precursor/material formulations, solar cells could be printed in desired forms with colours and semi-transparency, allowing them to be widely used in Building-integrated PVs (BIPVs) for urban solar farm applications.
