Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the MOE Key Laboratory of Functional Polymer Materials at Nankai University, the prestigious "何炳林讲座高端论坛" series was inaugurated. As a vital segment of this series, organized by the College of Chemistry, Nankai University, Professor JEN took the spotlight, presenting his thought-provoking talk titled "Printable Organic and Perovskite Solar Cells for Clean Energy." Beyond capturing attention, his engaging discourse acted as a catalyst, instilling fresh perspectives and reigniting enthusiasm for sustainable energy solutions among all attendees.

Prof Jen visited the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) and delivered a Molecular Science Frontier Lecture titled ‘From Nanometer-Sized Molecular Photovoltaics to Meter-Sized Printable Organic and Perovskite Solar Cells for Clean Energy’. 

The lecture was concluded by an in-depth discussion between Prof Jen, staff and students from the Academy. The visit was a fruitful journey for knowledge exchange and further evolvement of the clean energy technology.

They expressed interest in developing research on clean energy development and applications, which are in line with our focus on scientific and green technological research.
Its interest in clean energy research is particularly relevant given the increasing importance of clean energy in addressing increasing energy demands and supply. During the visit, we share the HKICE’s research and the relevant development projects on novel energy materials and devices and explore potential areas of collaboration.

HKICE participated in an interview with RTHK to discuss the latest developments in solar panel technology. Prof. YIP highlighted the advancements in solar panel efficiency and cost-effectiveness. They also discussed the role that solar energy is playing in the transition towards a more sustainable energy system. HKICE is actively engaged in research and development of clean energy technologies and has been promoting the use of solar power in Hong Kong. Through the contributions to RTHK's interview, we successfully raise the public awareness of the benefits of solar energy and encourage more widespread adoption of solar technology.

Our team had set up an impressive booth showcasing the latest and most innovative PV products for solar energy conversion. The exhibition was a great success, as we had the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of individuals who shared a common interest in promoting sustainable and clean energy practices. Many participants were pleasantly surprised by the cutting-edge PV products we showcased. Their design was captivating, and their efficiency remarkable – resulting in an overwhelmingly positive response from everyone who attended.

We are proud to have been a part of this event and to have contributed to the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable and clean energy practices in Hong Kong. The visit by the Delegates of Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau (東莞市科技局) to the HKICE was a productive exchange of ideas. Both parties engaged in a dialogue on the clean energy research in HKICE, including hydrogen generation, lithium-ion battery technology, CO2 conversion, and perovskite solar cell development. The lab visit provided the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau with a firsthand look at HKICE's research facilities and ongoing projects related to clean energy generation, storage, and materials development. By sharing insights, we explore realistic pathway to accelerate the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Visit from Global Ocean Capital Promotion Council of Shenzhen

Global Ocean Capital Promotion Council of Shenzhen (深圳全球海洋中心城市建设促进会) visited the HKICE. We discussed the eco-shoreline concept and strategic collaboration between the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (SKLMP) and HKICE for the Carbon Neutrality/Blue Economy concept. The purpose of the visit was to gain insight into the research on clean energy being conducted at HKICE, as well as to explore potential areas of collaboration between the Shenzhen-Hong Kong.
The SKLMP is a key research organization focused on marine control and development, while HKICE is a leading research institute focused on clean energy and sustainable development. This visit provide an opportunity for both parties to exchange ideas and explore potential areas of collaboration in the areas of clean energy and marine development. It was part of a broader effort to promote scientific collaboration and advance research in the areas of clean energy and sustainable development.
