Jing Zhang
Jing Zhang, student in the Bachelor of Laws programme, studied abroad with Leiden University in the Netherlands through CityU’s Student Exchange Programme.
“The exchange programme at Leiden University is well-designed and efficiently organized. Starting from the application process at CityU, subsequent procedures at Leiden, housing arrangements, and thorough pre-departure preparations, all are supported by comprehensive guidance. Embarking on a study abroad journey alone can be daunting. However, I appreciate it that there is always a reliable contact for assistance during unforeseen events. This has greatly facilitated my exchange experience.”
“The course structures at Leiden University closely mirror those at CityU, yet the classroom atmosphere is distinctly different. There, students engage actively in classes, and ask questions whenever uncertainties arise. At CityU, or broadly speaking in Asia, we tend not to interrupt during lectures, and often contribute only when prompted by instructors. This highlights the divergent educational cultures. I was inspired by my classmates at Leiden, and also tried actively engaged in the discussions and think critically. It turns out to be an efficient way of learning, which I kept as a habit after returning from the exchange.”
