Hoang Truong Tho Phan
Vietnamese student Hoang Truong Tho Phan (Computer Science) joined University of Toronto (UofT) in Canada as an exchange student through CityU's Student Exchange Programme.
While adapting to a new environment is not a big challenge as he had years of experience being an international student, Truong Tho still needed time to adapt to the study in UofT - getting used to a larger campus, for example. 'The University of Toronto boasts not one, but three different campuses across Ontario, Canada. I was fortunate enough to be assigned to the St. George campus, which is situated in the heart of Toronto. The campus itself is huge, and walking from one end of the campus to the other takes a good 30 minutes!'
Truong Tho had a lot of great memories studying in Canada, including but not limited to the more interactive mode of learning, the beautiful architecture on UofT campus, the Robarts Library, and even the pink food truck selling Asian food which brought the taste of Hong Kong back to him.
Truong Tho said, 'being open-minded and willing to try new things had been the key in helping me make new friends, especially by attending university or community events'. He also encourages future outgoing exchange students to take time to research and apply for available scholarships. 'I am blissed to be a Lee Shau Kee Exchange Scholarships recipient with a generous fund I can get as an outbound exchange student.'
