Adam Gear (Computational Finance and Financial Technology) completed his exchange semester abroad with Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD).
"I was excited to study in India for a variety of reasons. Firstly, India is becoming an increasingly important player on the global stage, with the world’s largest population and fastest-growing major economy. Given the importance of India in the future, I reckoned that spending some time there understanding the region could benefit my career later on. Also, having been raised in a Western cultural context, growing up in South Africa and studying in Hong Kong, India seemed like the place most culturally distinct from all of the various places with which I was familiar beforehand, and I wanted to be exposed to a foreign culture over my exchange."
"If you ask anyone from India, they will tell you that IIT Delhi is well-known in the country for its academic rigour and its notoriously difficult standardised entrance examination. This was one of the parts of the exchange that I was most looking forward to - the opportunity to study alongside many of India’s smartest students for a semester."
"India has an unbelievable diversity of nature and culture. In just a few months, I visited 10 of India’s states and union territories and was exposed to mountainous, tropical, and desert environments. There were also many different things to do at the different locations, ranging from hiking to monument-seeing to watching live cricket matches!"
