City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) hosted an Alumni Reunion Dinner in Beijing on 24 August to mark the 30th anniversary of CityUHK. Alumni from different provinces and cities in mainland China came together to celebrate the remarkable achievements of their alma mater over the past 30 years.
Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK, led the senior leadership team together with 200 alumni and University representatives, including the Chairmen of the CityUHK Alumni Chapters in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu, to celebrate the momentous occasion of CityUHK’s 30th anniversary amidst joy and laughter.
During the dinner, President Boey presented certificates of appreciation to Mr Li Renxing, Chairman of the CityUHK Beijing Alumni Chapter (co-organising unit of the dinner), and the ExCo members. He invited the alumni to participate and reunite in the “CityUHK Alumni Homecoming” to be held on 2 November at CityUHK to revisit fond memories of the campus and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the University.
President Boey emphasised that CityUHK values its close connections with mainland alumni. He expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of the CityUHK Alumni Chapters in the Mainland in consolidating the mainland alumni network. He also introduced the latest developments and achievements of CityUHK to the alumni. These included the recent establishment of the Institute of Digital Medicine and the College of Computing. Being recognised as the Most International University in the World, CityUHK is committed to fostering collaboration with esteemed global universities. The University increased its footprint in mainland China by establishing CityUHK (Dongguan) and it plans to set up the CityUHK Innovation Centre in Qingdao.
President Boey added that in alignment with the Chinese saying “At thirty, one should stand firm”, CityUHK will continue to make a significant contribution globally through its outstanding pioneering research and solutions, innovating into the future.
The dinner featured an array of events, including a lucky draw and performance of an original kuaiban piece by an alumnus to illustrate CityUHK’s successful development and remarkable achievements. Additionally, President Boey, University representatives, and executive committee members of the CityUHK Beijing Alumni Chapter led all the participants in singing, which heightened the celebratory atmosphere.
The CityUHK Beijing Alumni Chapter also hosted the alumni forum in the afternoon on the same day. Alumni who excel in corporate management in various sectors delivered keynote speeches and participated in round-table discussions.
Speaking at the forum, Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityUHK, and Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, expressed that the remarkable achievements of CityUHK alumni in various fields are a testimony to the success of the University’s education. It is hoped that the alumni and community leaders will continue to support the development of CityUHK. Together, they can promote the excellent achievements of the University and build an incredible future.
