Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong SAR Government, was briefed on the latest developments on innovation of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) during a visit on 19 August.
Dr Choi and her team, including Ms Michelle Li, Permanent Secretary for Education; and Mr Esmond Lee Chung-sin, Deputy Secretary (Ed) 1, were warmly welcomed by the University's senior management team led by Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President.
CityUHK’s management team introduced the University’s achievements and advancements in research and innovation. President Boey emphasised CityUHK’s dedication to fostering a teaching and research environment that nurtures innovation among young people. As the most international university in the world, CityUHK is committed to forging global partnerships to expand overseas exchange opportunities for its students.
Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise), highlighted CityUHK’s initiatives to build a robust innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem that translates academic research into practical applications. Key initiatives include the HK Tech 300 flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme, as well as the newly established CityUHK Academy of Innovation and Institute of Digital Medicine.
Representatives from the Education Bureau commended CityUHK’s innovative and outreach initiatives. Both parties also exchanged views on the development of CityUHK (Dongguan) and the University’s accomplishments in intellectual property, among other initiatives.
Other members of the senior management team present at the meeting included Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President; Professor Li Wen-jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy); Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement); Miss Maggie Chau Choi-ying, Vice-President (Administration); Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research) (designate); Professor Michael Tse Chi-kong, Associate Vice-President (Innovation); and Ms Shirley Chong, Director, Communications and Institutional Research Office.
After the meeting, Dr Choi visited the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz and Millimeter Waves to learn about CityUHK’s research capabilities in communication technology; and the exhibition “A Passion for Silk: The Road from China to Europe” at the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery.
