Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and Satbayev University (SU) were signed on 17 April to enhance their strategic partnership by generating excellence in teaching, learning and research.
The MoUs were signed by Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK, and Rector Meiram Begentayev of SU, and witnessed by Mr Lester Garson Huang, Council Chairman of CityUHK, and Mr Almas Seitakynov, Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong and Macao.
The MoUs follow a joint agreement signed by CityUHK, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and SU in November 2023, which focused on setting up the CityUHK Research Institute at SU as a hub for interdisciplinary fields.
After several months of fruitful dialogue, CityUHK and SU decided to take a further step towards mutually beneficial undergraduate and postgraduate initiatives. Under the newly signed MoUs, both sides will focus on the development of undergraduate student exchange programmes, joint supervision of PhD students, faculty exchange, and staff training programmes, funded by the Bolashak programme. The possibility of developing master’s level programmes will be explored as well.
Guests attending the signing ceremony included Vice-Rector Samgat Yermekbayev of SU, and from CityUHK: Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President, Professor Li Wenjung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy), Professor Yue Chee-yoon, Dean of Graduate Studies, Professor Lu Jian, Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Steven Wang, Associate Vice-President (Resources Planning), Professor Jennifer Lin Fen, Associate Vice-President (Global Strategy), and Dr Ulzhan Shilibekova, Regional Associate.
