An inter-institutional collaborative team involving a scholar from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) promoting a student-centred project, “English Across the Curriculum”, has been awarded the 2022 University Grants Committee (UGC) Teaching Award (the Award). This is the sixth time that CityU faculty members have been honoured with a UGC teaching award since the inception of the Award in 2011.
Ms Christy Chan May-see, Senior Tutor in CityU’s Chan Feng Men-ling Chan Shuk-lin Language Centre, is one of the project team members. Over the past eight years, the Team has been helping English teachers and discipline teachers in UGC-funded universities improve their students’ English ability and learning experience.
Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU, congratulated Ms Chan for receiving the prestigious award. “CityU cultivates creative, responsive leaders with an international perspective and highly effective communication skills to cope with the fast-changing economic and technological landscape,” said President Kuo.
“Our team shares the belief that innovative, in-time English language support is crucial to preparing students in various disciplines to succeed at different stages of their undergraduate studies. We thank all the discipline academics who share the same belief and have collaborated with us on English Across the Curriculum over the years. The UGC Teaching Award also belongs to them,” said Ms Chan.
Members of the “English Across the Curriculum Team” include Ms Christy Chan from CityU; Dr Julia Chen and Dr Grace Lim from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Ms Vicky Man from Hong Kong Baptist University; and Dr Elza Tsang from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
