The title of Honorary Fellow was conferred on four distinguished persons by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in recognition of their distinctive contributions to the development of, and service to, the University and the community.
The distinguished persons are:
- Mrs Indra Banga, a member of the Board of Directors, Caravel Group;
- Dr Sunny Chai Ngai-chiu, BBS, JP, Managing Director, Fook Tin Group Holdings Limited;
- Dr Gary Cheng Faat-ting, Founder and Managing Director, Gary Cheng Group; and
- Dr Brian Li Yiu-cheung, Vice-Chairman and Executive Vice-President of the Hong Kong-listed Gold Peak Technology Group Limited and Executive Vice-President of the Singapore-listed GP Industries Limited.
Officiating at the ceremony on 23 September were Dr Chung Shui-ming, Pro-Chancellor, Mr Lester Garson Huang, Council Chairman, and Professor Way Kuo, University President.
In his address, Mr Huang said dedicated friends like the four new Honorary Fellows had enabled CityU to scale even greater heights. “These four highly respected persons from our community are enthusiastic supporters of CityU, contributing time and energy to promoting our core mission to becoming a world-leading university,” he said.
Mr Huang reflected on CityU’s recent successes in maintaining extremely robust world rankings and our significant strides in promoting the CityU brand. “With the support of our four new Honorary Fellows, I am confident that CityU will continue to lead the development of higher education in Hong Kong,” he said.
Addressing the audience on behalf of the Honorary Fellows, Dr Chai said CityU actively promoted innovation and technology for the benefit of society. “Inspired by the idea of the ‘integration of teaching and research’, CityU has become one of the most rapidly developing universities in the world, excelling in research and professional education.” He said that the four Honorary Fellows were delighted that CityU promotes entrepreneurship and engages in research that is applicable to the needs of society.
