Three outstanding undergraduates from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) overcame keen competition to win HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship for 2020/21.

Nominated by CityU Student Development Services, HSBC senior executives and representatives selected the three CityU students’ long-range career development plans aimed at this fast-growing region after several rounds of vigorous interviews.

Each awardee received HK$80,000 to support their career aspirations. In addition, the awardees will gain invaluable access to mentorship opportunities with HSBC executives as well as practical career and business advice from financial leaders to expand their social and professional network.

One of the winners, Tommy Tang Man-chung from the Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, said this scholarship experience was extremely meaningful and offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into regional potential.

He targets establishing his own asset management firm after acquiring the necessary financial knowledge and developing an extensive client network.

Studying for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Global Business Systems Management, the other two awardees, Austin Lo Wing-hei and Shirley Lai Ho-ching said they would like to gain a deeper understanding of the developments in this fast-growing region after their recent exchange journey at Tsinghua University, Beijing.

Austin said he was aspired to create a fin-tech start-up in Green Finance, while Shirley said she planned to pursue a local master’s degree in geoinformation science or cultural management after she graduates in 2022.

Formally recognised as HSBC Scholars, the awardees look forward to grasping the opportunities ahead and soaring high with a network of other high achievers in the region.
