Four distinguished individuals will receive honorary doctoral degrees from CityU in recognition of their significant contributions to education and the well-being of society.

The President of CityU, Professor Freddy Boey Yin Chiang, led a delegation from CityU to meet with Mr Lu Zhiyuan, Deputy Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, on 2 August. The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the CityU-Qingdao Innovation Research Institute in Qingdao’s West Coast New Area and to strengthen cooperation in new materials, new energy, biomedicine, marine science and AI.

CityU was honoured to host a delegation from Kazakhstan led by Mr Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education, and Mr Almas Seitakynov, Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong and Macao, on 17 August 2023. The delegation was warmly greeted and received by Mr Lester Garson Huang, Council Chairman of CityU, along with members of the senior management team.

Professor Freddy Boey Yin Chiang, President of CityU, shared his insights on the topic “Universities and Deep Technology Start Ups – An Evolving Perspective” at a keynote speech at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Forum 2023 on 25 August.
