We are a research group in the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong, specializing in Systems Biology for Energy and the Environment. Our focus is on advancing the fundamental understanding of microbial sciences and applying this knowledge to address challenges related to energy, the environment, and human health. Our work lies at the interface face of microbiology, biotechnology, and engineering.

News: PhD Student Opportunities (2025/26)

We are currently recruiting talented and motivated students interested in pursuing a PhD in the area of microbiology and biotechnology with applications to energy and environmental challenges. The candidates should hold a bachelor's or master's degree in fields such as microbiology, microbial sciences, bioinformatics, bioengineering, biochemical engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or related disciplines. We especially welcome applicants with a background in bioinformatics or molecular biology. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship. News: Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunities

Our research group is currently recruiting a number of Postdoctoral Fellows who have expertise in the following areas:

  1. metagenomics or bioinformatics;
  2. metabolic engineering or molecular biology, and
  3. genome-scale modelling

The successful candidates will participate in a couple of new projects related to biobased chemicals or microbiome.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in chemical engineering, metabolic engineering, bioengineering, microbiology, molecular biology, systems biology, bioinformatics or a related discipline. Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team are essential.
