Physical vapor deposition
Acarl focuses on development of nanoscale multilayer Physical Vapour Deposited (PVD) coatings and the development of the High-power impulse magnetron sputtering technique. The nanoscale multilayer structure form thin films, even in nanoscale, provide super-hard, aesthetic appeal and non-sticking property.
The coatings are used in various applications, with super-hard, wear resistant, corrosion resistant, oxidation resistant properties, the coatings are widely used in Bio-medical field, Jewellery industry, Micro-Electronics Industry. The research based at the centre focuses on fundamental studies transfering to an industrial sized deposition machine for mass production. The coatings development in the centre has been a result of various Hong Kong and Mainland industry.
PVD coating products include:
Amorphous Carbon Coatings by Controlling Surface Patterning for Surgical Tools
Adherent Pure Diamond-like Carbon Coatings on Biomedical Titanium Alloys
Superhard Nano-composite Ti-Si-N Coatings for Automotive industry
Diamond Coatings for Hong Kong Manufacturing Industry
Nanocomposite nc-CrN/a-CN Thin Films for Medical application
