The Honourable Mr Geoffrey MA Tao-li, GBM visited CityUHK School of Law
On 14 November 2024, the School of Law had the honour of hosting Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, GBM, for a Fireside Chat and an engaging Q&A session with CityUHK students. The event was moderated by Professor Lin Feng and Professor Noam Zamir.
Geoffrey Ma is the former Chief Justice of Hong Kong, having retired in January 2021. He is now a leading international arbitrator and mediator.
During the Fireside Chat, Geoffrey Ma offered invaluable insights from his remarkable career, detailing his evolution from a law student in England to a prominent barrister and eventually the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal. He thoughtfully addressed student questions about the distinct roles of judges and arbitrators. Furthermore, he shared critical reflections on the rule of law and the importance of judicial independence.
Following the Fireside Chat, Geoffrey Ma participated in a tea reception, allowing students to further connect with him and delve deeper into his experiences and insights.

馬道立先生於2010年9月獲委任為終審法院首席法官，並於 2021 年 1 月退休。他現在是一名知名的國際仲裁員和調解員。
在爐邊談話中， 馬道立先生無私分享了他從英國法學生走向國際知名的大律師，到最終成為終審法院首席法官的職業生涯經歷。馬道立先生還分享了他擔任法官和仲裁員的獨特經驗，並且提供了他對法治和司法獨立重要性的見解。
爐邊談話結束後，馬道立先生參加了茶會，與學生們進一步交流，繼續分享他的經驗和見解。
