Congratulations to Mr Ivan SIN Cheuk Him and Mr Christopher K.H. TO on Being Appointed as Judicial Assistant at the Court of Final Appeal
Congratulations to Mr Ivan SIN Cheuk Him and Mr Christopher K.H. TO, recent graduates of School of Law of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), who have been appointed as Judicial Assistant at the Court of Final Appeal from 2022-2023.
Ivan obtained his LLB in 2021 and PCLL in 2022 from CityU. He pursues research in general private law, and has written on contract, tort, trust, and company law. His works are published (or are forthcoming) in the Law Quarterly Review, Cambridge Law Journal, Lloyd's Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly, Journal of Business Law, Conveyancer and Property Lawyer, Company Lawyer and Singapore Journal of Legal Studies. Ivan’s works have been cited in academic commentaries, and his work on the reflective loss principle in company law was cited by the Singapore Court of Appeal (the final appellate court in Singapore) in Miao Weiguo v Tendcare Medical Group Holdings Pte Ltd [2021] SGCA 116.
Ivan sat on the Editorial Board of the City University of Hong Kong Law Review as General Editor for academic year 2020-2021, and as Editor-in-Chief in 2021-2022.
Christopher obtained his LLB in 2020 and PCLL in 2021 from CityU. During his studies, he served as the internal vice-president of the 28th Law Students’ Society, CityU and organized various programmes for students of the School of Law. He was called to the Bar in 2022 and was appointed as a Judicial Assistant of the Court of Final Appeal in the same year. During his appointment, Christopher works closely with the appellate judges in the Court of Final Appeal, and his duties mainly include conducting research for judges on law points and writing memoranda for appeals and leave applications.
Prior to his appointment, Christopher served pupillage with Mr Valentine Yim, Mr Charles J Chan and Mr Eugene Yim. He will serve pupillage with Mr Anson Wong SC, JP in late 2023 and commence private practice upon completion of his appointment in the Court of Final Appeal. Christopher has a particular interest in civil practice, especially in commercial, land, matrimonial and probate disputes.
