Conference on The Impact of Technology on Legal Education and Practice
School of Law of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held an international conference entitled ‘The Impact of Technology on Legal Education and Practice’ in the hybrid format on 10 December 2024.
The conference was structured around two themes. The morning sessions focused on the theme of ‘Technology and the Legal Profession/Practice,’ while the afternoon sessions delved into the theme of ‘Technology and Legal Education/Teaching.’ Around 20 distinguished speakers from both the academia and the legal industry shared their insights on the application of GenAI in legal practice, teaching, and research. Through stimulating discussion, the conference provided a good opportunity for the exchange of information and views among participants on cutting-edge topics regarding legal tech and innovative approaches of law school education.
The conference started with the welcome remarks addressed by Prof. Lin Feng, Dean of CityUHK School of Law. The morning sessions were moderated by Mr. Jack Burke (CityUHK) and had presentations from Prof. Christian Wagner (CityUHK), Prof. Geraint Howells (University of Galway), Prof. Dirk Hartung (Singapore Management University), Mr. Carl Li and Mr. Zhong Xiaoming (Linklaters), Miss Stephanie Siu and Miss Christie Luk (Thomson Reuters), as well as Prof. Lin Feng (CityUHK).
The afternoon sessions were moderated by Prof. He Tianxiang and Prof. Huang Tao (CityUHK) and had presentations from Prof. Michael Tsimplis (CityUHK), Prof. Martin Hogg (University of Galway), Prof. He Zhipeng (Jilin University), Prof. John Zeleznikow (Victoria University), Mr. Brian Tang (University of Hong Kong), Prof. Murray Scott (University of Galway), Mr. Timothy Ho (LexisNexis Legal & Professional), Dr. Abigail Rekas (University of Galway), and Prof. Stuart Hargreaves (Chinese University of Hong Kong). The conference had been brought to a successful conclusion after closing remarks given by Prof. Geraint Howells.
