Don't miss Prof. Daniel Schlenk's Distinguished Lecture on "Why Didn’t They Die? Detoxification Strategies in Marine Consumers"!

Prof. Schlenk is a Distinguished Professor of Aquatic Ecotoxicology and Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Riverside. A Fellow of AAAS and SETAC, he has served as a permanent member and chair of the USEPA TSCA Chemical Safety Advisory Committee and the USEPA FIFRA Science Advisory Panel. He is also an Executive and Associate Editor for 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 & 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 and 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 & 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘓𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴.

Marine organisms are exposed to millions of chemicals throughout their lifetime. Some are derived from humans (anthropogenic), but yet others occur in nature, often within their diet or in habitats without human modification. In some cases, these “natural” toxins have far greater toxicity than anthropogenic toxicants. This lecture will examine the feeding strategies of marine organisms in temperate and tropical habitants and evaluate the roles of biotransformation in the detoxification of toxins often used as chemical defenses by dietary items encountered by herbivorous and predatory species within the marine environment.

Join us for an inspirational lecture with Prof. Schlenk, where you will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research findings and engage in discussions with him.
