Congratulations to SKLMP Member Dr. Nathanael Jin and his postdoc Dr. Changchao Li from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. They led a collaboration with Prof. Jian Liu from Shandong University, Prof. Xiangdong Li, SKLMP Member and Chair Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and other experts from domestic and international institutions. By constructing a global catalog of plastisphere microbes, they revealed risks from plastisphere microbial communities to ecosystem function and human health.

The related research paper, Ecology and risks of the global plastisphere as a newly expanding microbial habitat, was selected as the cover highlights and featured content in The Innovation. At The Innovation Conference 2024 in Shenzhen held in July this year, this paper was also honoured with the "Most Popular Paper Award 2020-2024." The research team aims for their research findings to better assist in tackling plastic pollution risks and offering potential resolutions for the global plastic contamination crisis going forward.
