SKLMP members presented their latest research results at the "Marine Environment and Health" symposium
The 4th China Conference on Environment and Health (CCEH 2023) - Marine Environment and Health symposium was held on August 18th in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Professor Mei Yee Leung, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution at City University of Hong Kong (SKLMP), along with two members of the laboratory, Assistant Professors Yuhe He and Jinping Cheng, engaged in an in-depth exchange of the latest research developments in the fields of the marine environment.
Professor Mei Yee Leung presented on the topic "Managing New Pollutants Like Managing an Invisible Tide," emphasizing the persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity of emerging chemical pollutants in the ocean.
Assistant Professor Yuhe He from City University of Hong Kong addressed the topic "Liquid Crystal Monomers: A Type of Emerging E-waste-related Pollutant," underlining the concerning environmental impact posed by liquid crystal monomers.
Assistant Professor Jinping Cheng from the Education University of Hong Kong presented on “The Microbial Colonization of (Micro)plastics Surfaces in Coastal Environments and Their Environmental Effects.” The presentation highlighted that microplastics support diverse bacterial communities, and various types of microplastics can influence the development of distinct bacterial biofilms.
