Celebration of Physics - PHY Annual Symposium 2024 was held with great success on 4 June, showcasing PHY's core values.
Since its inception in 2019, the Symposium has become PHY's annual signature event. It provides a platform for students to showcase their research achievements and to promote a collaborative research culture within the department. From time to time, it has become an essential and integral part of our department’s tradition.
During the morning session, undergraduate (UG), MSc, and PhD students participated in a Posters Exhibition to showcase their research findings and present their posters on-site. This allowed students to present their hard work to their peers and faculty members and engage in face-to-face discussions on their topics. Attendees voted for the Best Poster(s) in each category, which were then awarded at the Symposium.
The Symposium began with welcoming remarks from Professor WANG Xin (Dean of College of Science, CityUHK). This was followed by the first Scientific Session, chaired by Professor ZHANG Zhedong. Four speakers shared their insights in the field of quantum materials. The second session, chaired by Professor CHU Xiangqiang, featured two inspirational talks by Professor XU Xunjie from the Institute of High-Energy Physics, China, and Professor ZHONG Yi-ming, focusing on high-energy physics. The climax of the Symposium was the Keynote Talk, chaired by Professor REN Yang (Head of the Department and Chair Professor of Physics, CityUHK). The talk, titled "Mattis vs Kapitza: Slow Dynamics in and out of Equilibrium," was delivered by Professor TANG Leihan, a Chair Professor from Westlake University.
Faculty Service Awards
In addition to the talks, we also celebrated the achievements of our students and faculty members. We congratulated Professor LI Xiao and Professor ZHANG Zhedong for their remarkable contributions in coordinating the seminars and colloquiums for the department with the Faculty Service Awards 2023.
Also, the result of Student Awards are as follow:
