Bio

The late Mr David Chow Tak-fung, Founder of Easy Power Limited and former President of the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, was a distinguished entrepreneur who had made significant contributions to the optical industry. Since the 1980s, Mr Chow had offered technical support to the local optical industries on the mainland China to benefit the optical development. In the 2000s, he applied himself to the development of new products and succeeded in obtaining two patents, including his research into, and development of, polyvinyl acetate for sunglasses. In 2008, Mr Chow was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the optical industry.

Both education and health had been the key focus of Mr Chow in his public services and philanthropical sponsorships. Mr Chow was a supportive partner of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) for years. He was a former member of the Board of Governors and the Honorary Patron of the CityU Foundation, and an Honorary Fellow of the University. Mr Chow established the Mr and Mrs David T F Chow Bursary, and sponsored and participated in the Life Mentor Scheme organised by the then Department of Applied Social Sciences. In 2013, a lecture theatre at CityU was named Mr & Mrs David T F Chow Lecture Theatre in acknowledgement of his generous support.

Mr Chow had also supported various health services as a volunteer and donor. In 2010, Tung Wah Eastern Hospital’s ophthalmology specialist clinic was named after Mr Chow, in acknowledgement of his generous support to Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

Mr Eric Chow Yik-cheung, son of the late Mr Chow, shares his father’s passion for contributing to the education sector by participating in CityU’s organisations to help the University.

One Health relates to the interaction of human, animal and environmental health, and involves the holistic study of sustainable ways of human survival. I am confident that the CityU faculty will use its research expertise to explore solutions for the urgent challenges facing our environment.
