徐揚生院士 (Academician Xu Yangsheng)

徐揚生教授，中國工程院院士，香港中文大學（深圳）校長。同時兼任中國科學院深圳先進技術研究院副院長。他出生於浙江紹興，一九八二年及一九八四年分別獲得浙江大學學士、碩士學位，一九八九年獲得美國賓夕法尼亞大學博士學位，一九八九至一九九七年在美國卡耐基梅隆大學從事空間機器人研究，自一九九七年起在香港中文大學任教，並擔任系主任、協理副校長、副校長等職。自二O一三年八月開始，擔任香港中文大學（深圳）校長。

徐院士研究的領域包括機器人、控制與動力學，包括空間機器人、服務機器人、穿戴式人機界面、智慧混合動力汽車。徐教授發表了六部專著、三百多篇國際期刊論文和國際學術會議論文，獲選為中國工程院院士、國際宇航科學院院士、IEEE院士、國際歐亞科學院院士以及香港工程科學院院士。

徐院士認為學習書法：第一要「看」。現代人忙碌，雖然不一定有機會寫，卻可以利用時間多看。徐院士習慣帶本字帖，或是利用手提電腦，在機場，在酒店都可以看。多看能使人博采群長，學藝深厚；第二是要「放」。漢代蔡邕曾說：「書者，散也。欲書先散懷抱，任情恣性，然後書之。」他發現有時為友人或為展覽而寫，結果常常不很滿意。自己隨性亂塗，卻常有些理想的作品產生。「放」就是將自己的美自然流露出來，而不是故意去表現那個「美」，這樣的作品才是真正美的。

Professor Xu Yangsheng is currently the President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University. He is also the Professor of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering. He studied in Engineering in Zhejiang University, China and received his BEng and MEng degrees in 1982 and 1984, respectively. He pursued further studies in University of Pennsylvania and received his PhD degree in 1989. He then worked on robotics research at Carnegie Mellon University from 1989 to 1997, and joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1997. He served as Department Chairman (1997-2004), Assistant to Vice-Chancellor (2006-2008), Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (2008-2011), Pro-Vice-Chancellor/Vice-President (2011-present), Director of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Integration Technology, CAS/CUHK (2006-2010), and Associate Director of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, CAS (2006-present).

Professor Xu's research includes space robotics, intelligent control and systems, and automatic learning. He has developed over 30 robotic systems and led over 30 projects funded by government and industries. More recently, he has been interested in service robotics, man-machine interface and intelligent hybrid electric vehicles. His research has resulted in over 300 publications including four monographs and one edited book. He was elected as Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of HKIE, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and Corresponding Member of International Academy of Astronautics.

Professor Xu has actively participated in various professional activities. He served as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation (1997-2000), Board Director of Hong Kong Productivity Council (2003-2006), Council member of Chinese Society of Automation (2002-present), Advisor of Chinese Hi-tech Program on Aerospace Committee (2004-2006), and Advisor of the Decision and Advisory Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Government (2008-present).
