Start-ups Compete for the Crown in the HK Tech 300 Pitching Arena
The “HK Tech 300 Pitching Arena”, organised by City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and one of the exciting online community events of InvestHK’s StartmeupHK Festival, was successfully held on 6 September. Ten start-up companies went head to head to compete for the “My Favourite Start-up” award.
The event was kicked off by Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Executive Committee Chairman of HK Tech 300, and Mr Stanley Ho, Senior Manager of StartmeupHK, Invest Hong Kong, with Vivek Mahbubani, a top comedian and CityU alumnus as moderator.
“Stepping into the arena today are 10 promising start-ups that share a passion for innovation and breakthroughs, and a desire to transform our world into a better place,” said Professor Yang in his welcoming remarks. “I believe that when our start-ups are ready to bring their best to this stage and audiences across the globe, many different growth possibilities will start to emerge.”
“Despite the challenge presented in the past few years, Hong Kong continues to be a vibrant start-up hub,” said Mr Ho. “We remain confident in the city’s ability to attract new talent and aspiring entrepreneurs into our dynamic start-up ecosystem. Special thanks go to CityU for launching HK Tech 300 and taking our ecosystem to the next level.”
Representatives of 10 start-ups competed in the “HK Tech 300 Pitching Arena” to make their best pitch to the online audience. Following a vigorous competition, ESSAA Limited was voted “My Favourite Start-up” by the online audience.
Since the establishment of HK Tech 300, about 1,200 people have participated in entrepreneurship training, more than 360 teams have each been awarded a seed fund of HK$100,000, and over 70 start-ups have been selected to receive angel fund investment of up to $1 million each to develop and validate their business models.
