Get Started in Guang Embroidery

Using needles instead of brushes and threads as pigments, Guang Embroidery depicts lifelike natural scenery. As one of the “Four Great Chinese Embroideries”, Guang Embroidery has been passed down through folk traditions for over a thousand years, carrying the wisdom of generations of traditional craftsmen in Guangdong. Its skillful needlework and unique style make it highly appreciated and regarded as a precious gem in Lingnan culture. It was included in the first batch of The National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China in 2006.

Conducted by the instructors from Guangxiuzhuang (a Guang Embroidery craftsmanship factory in Shunde), who will provide instruction on basic knowledge and needlework techniques, this workshop aims to lead students in understanding and appreciating how traditional artists use their fingertips, one stitch at a time, to present the essence of Guang Embroidery on silk fabric. Students will also be participated in the production process and experience the joy of embroidering.

This workshop will be held on three consecutive Saturdays from 4 to 18 November.
