    Professor Liew Kim-meow: the first Asian scholar to receive the Carl Zeiss Humboldt Research Award
    Professor Liew Kim-meow, Yeung Kin Man Chair Professor of Sustainable Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, has been awarded the 2024 Carl-Zeiss-Humboldt Research Award, the first time an Asian scholar has received this prestigious honor. Known for his expertise in computational mechanics and sustainable materials engineering, Professor Liew has made significant contributions to understanding deformation and fracture in solids, advancing green concrete and sustainable materials research. He plans to collaborate with researchers in Germany on self-healing materials for transport infrastructure. With over 800 publications, 55,000 citations, and an h-index of 117, Professor Liew is a highly cited researcher and a leading figure in his field. The award, established in 2022, carries a prize of €100,000.

    CityU researcher wins second prize at the National Award for Technological Inventions.
    Professor Dai Jianguo and his team were awarded the 2024 National Technology Invention Award (Second Prize) for their work on low-calcium superstable materials for fine-grained solid wastes. They developed a groundbreaking method for activating bulk solid waste at room temperature and created technologies for ultra-stable solidification of waste and heavy metals. Their innovations have been applied across China and Belt and Road countries, marking a significant advancement in the safe use of solid waste.     Professor Hu Jinlian was honoured with "Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award
    Professor Hu Jinlian of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong has been awarded the Guanghua Prize for Engineering Science and Technology for her outstanding contributions to fibrous materials science. She is one of six female awardees and among four experts from Hong Kong, Macau, and SAR to receive this prestigious honor. Professor Hu, known for her pioneering work in smart textiles and memory fibres, founded the world’s first Shape Memory Textiles Research Centre and invented cellulose-based shape memory textiles. The Guanghua Prize is the highest award in China's engineering sector, recognizing exceptional achievements in engineering and technology.
