The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) re-appointed Mr Lester Garson Huang, SBS, JP, as the Council Chairman of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) for another three-year term, and appointed three new members to the Council.
Mr Huang has served as the Chairman of the Council of CityU since 2018. With the solid support of Mr Huang, senior management of CityU has lived up to and advocated its principle of separating education and politics and the value of integrating teaching and research, and has continued to pursue excellence by adopting the highest standards in higher education. It has gone well beyond the stage of finding its feet and has accomplished many remarkable achievements. The re-appointment of Mr Huang will be effective from 1 January 2021.
In addition, three outstanding members of the business and professional community were appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR to the Council of CityU for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2021.
Mr Charles Chin Ying-on was appointed as Treasurer and member of the Council. Mr Chin is a Chartered Accountant. He had more than 35 years of experience in the field of audit and accounting. Mr Chin was a former partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He served as an elected member of PwC's governance body and later as a member of the management team before his retirement. He is a Fellow Member of The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), and a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He served as a member of the Investigation Panel and Complaints Panel of HKICPA.
An intrapreneur and established corporate executive, Mr Rex Wong Siu-han, JP, is the Chief Executive Officer of Kum Shing Group. Mr Wong is a fine arts major and an architect by training. He has over 15 years of experience leading design practice, property development and infrastructure projects in mainland China, United States and Europe. Mr Wong was the first young architect to serve as President of American Institute of Architects Hong Kong Chapter. He also serves as Council Officer of Hong Kong Construction Association. Public policy and education are also Mr Wong’s area of interests. He serves as Guangzhou committee member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference to advise the local policy makers. In addition, he is also a member of Brentwood College School Board of Governors, President’s Alumni Advisory Council of Rhode Island School of Design and the Court of CityU.
Mr Peter Yan King-shun, JP, is the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited. He is a fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society and has extensive experience in the information technology industry, having held various senior management positions in large consulting and information technology services companies. He has been active in public service, especially in the areas of talent development and digital technology industry development, and has served as an advisor to several local universities, including CityU, as well as member of the Cyberport Board from 2011 to 2017. He was conferred the CUHK Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree of 2020.
