Amidst the global spread of the novel coronavirus, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is operating as usual thanks to the concerted efforts of all our conscientious and efficient teachers, students and staff.
In addition, CityU’s research and other projects are progressing on schedule in a safe and protective environment with no infection cases reported on campus.
To thank all CityU members for their commitment, the “Anti-epidemic ‘Cheer Up Station!’” poster campaign has been launched.
Under the theme “From beneath your mask, embrace everyone’s efforts”, the campaign comprises a series of posters around campus for boosting the morale of the CityU community in this difficult time, encouraging all of us to appreciate each other’s positive energy and to continue to fight the epidemic together.
In the face of the pandemic, we naturally feel worried, and while we maintain social distancing, we need to look out for each other. The new posters aim to share the proactive attitudes of students and staff members from various units and departments. Although everyone’s faces are covered by masks, we can still imagine their warm smiles through the look in their eyes.
With the appropriate protective equipment, medical staff at the Young Chung-Yee Health Centre carefully follow procedures for categorising patients to reduce the risk of spreading viruses. In addition to treating patients in their usual professional manner, they deal with the challenges of the epidemic with a positive attitude.
Staff members at the Run Run Shaw Library not only offer their professional services as usual but they also execute preventive measures that provide a safe studying environment for all teachers and students. Security and cleaning staff have set up posts for checking body temperature and enhancing hygiene for the entire campus.
In addition, the CityU-Learning platform launched in February enables students to continue to learn in real time and online. Teachers and students have adapted to online learning with a positive attitude, too.
The epidemic has posed tremendous challenges to the CityU community. However, as long as we work together with an optimistic attitude, we can overcome adversity.
Surgical masks can stop viruses but not our smiles and thoughtfulness for others. Let us fight against the epidemic with positive energy.
