Student exchange provides students with an opportunity to gain valuable learning experience in new settings, broaden their cultural horizons and gain global perspectives. Credits earned at the partner institutions can be transferred to the academic programmes that students are studying at CityU.

4. Credit Transfer
(for Outbound Exchange Students participating in Institutional/College/Departmental-level Exchange Programmes)
Outbound exchange students may apply for credit transfer for courses they took in the partner institutions subject to the following conditions:
- Credit transfer granted will only count towards a University award but will not count in the calculation of a student's GPA, except where special arrangements have been made.
- Student should consult the respective Major Leader about the exchange study plan. Please allow sufficient time (e.g. at least 2 weeks) for the Major Leader’s advice.
- Student is required to submit the following forms together with course documents* to respective department(s) for approval.
*Course Documents:
- Course syllabus
- Number of credit units
- Format (lecture, tutorial or lab practical)
- Teaching pattern (number of hours/weeks)
- Assessment mode (examination/assignment)
- Academic calendar
Application for Proposed Credit Transfer
- All approved pre-approval forms should be returned to CHEM General Office for record.
- All applications for proposed credit transfer must be completed before departure.
- No guarantee of credit transfer can be made after exchange.
- Application for credit transfer should be made immediately in the semester following the exchange programme by submitting the form "Application for Credit Transfer for Outbound Exchange Student" together with official transcript and approved Proposed Credit Transfer Form(s) to the Department of Chemistry for approval.
5. Request for "Visa Application Supporting Letter"
(for Outbound Exchange Students participating in College/Departmental-level Exchange Programmes)
If students need a supporting letter for visa application for outbound exchange, please send an email request to the respective contact person and attach your Letter of Acceptance issued by the host institution for reference. Please note that it takes 2 - 3 working days for processing.
