This installation exploits the addictive behavior of mice that occurs when their hypothalamus ganglia are stimulated by electricity. Each button on the different pedals in this installation emits a different electrical voltage. Once a mouse finds the button that gives it its desired excitement, it will keep stamping on that button. Each pedal is linked to a different audio signal generator, so the mice’s stamping on them results in the sound structure of a popular electronic music band. The whole process may finally make the mice run out of energy, faint, or even die, because the music they make is determined by the unconscious desire of animal instinct.
