Dr Yujie Pu received her Sun Chieh Yeh Heart Foundation Young Investigator Award from Prof. Wallace Chak-sing Lau, Interim Dean of Medical School at The University of Hong Kong, at the 25th Scientific Meeting of ICSM.

Dr PU Yujie, a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. HUANG Yu’s laboratory received Sun Chieh Yeh Heart Foundation Young Investigator Award (1st Prize) in recognition of her outstanding oral presentation at the 25th Scientific Meeting of the Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Medicine (ICSM).

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Dr Pu presented her unpublished results at the meeting and she has uncovered a novel and significant role of TANK Binding Kinase 1 in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis using both genetic and pharmacological approaches. The results of the animal study demonstrate that this kinase can be targeted by chemicals, thus providing a scientific basis for the future development of new therapies against atherosclerotic vascular diseases.

The ICSM scientific meeting was held in Hong Kong on 5 November 2022 co-organised by the Department of Biomedical Sciences, City University of Hong Kong. It was to further enhance our understanding of cardiovascular diseases and exchange knowledge and insights in the field especially in this post COVID-19 era.
