City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) “(CityUHK (Dongguan)”, held its Grand Opening Ceremony on 2 September. Participating in person to share this joyous occasion were Central government officials, other officials from mainland China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), senior management from the Council, Court and Senate of CityUHK, senior management of CityUHK (Dongguan), students and parents. Today also marks the first school day of CityUHK (Dongguan).

The two universities renewed and signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding to consolidate their partnership and further promote exchanges and collaboration in various fields.

A delegation led by Mr WANG Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee and Deputy Mayor of Qingdao City, visited CityUHK on 22 April 2024 and met with CityUHK senior management. The two sides exchanged views on scientific research and teaching cooperation. President BOEY and Professor YANG Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise) introduced the unique features of CityUHK to the delegation, including its focus on excellence in research and professional education, and its promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship. Mr Wang said he hoped that Qingdao and CityUHK would strengthen their cooperation in R&D, innovation and talent nurturing.

They were warmly received by Professor YANG Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise), Professor HO Chung Yin, Associate Vice-President (Enterprise), Professor CHEN Fu-rong, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Collaboration), and other members of senior management. CityUHK introduced its efforts in conducting industry–academia–research collaboration with leading enterprises, producing high-level research outcomes, and enhancing the commercialisation of scientific and technological achievements. Also attending the meeting was Ms. WU Cheng, Deputy Director of the Education and Science and Technology Department under the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR.

They received a warm welcome from Professor LU Chun, Vice President (Mainland Strategy), Professor LI Juan, Associate Vice President (Mainland Strategy), Professor CHEN Guohua, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment, Professor LIU Zhigang, Associate Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Professor ZHANG Wenjun, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering (Research and Postgraduate Education), and Ms. SNG Jingli, Director of the Office of the President. The two sides had in-depth discussions and exchanges on matters such as the doctoral dual-degree joint training programme, undergraduate student exchanges, undergraduate dual-degree joint training programmes and research collaboration.

A promotion and recruitment meeting of the Dongguan internship programme "Soaring Wings" (HK station) was held at CityUHK, showcasing Dongguan's city image and its sincere interest in attracting talent from among Hong Kong university students. Mr. YAO Jiaqing, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of the Dongguan Municipal Committee, extended a sincere invitation to the representatives of Hong Kong universities and students present, welcoming university students from Hong Kong to sign up for the internship programme and intern or work in Dongguan. This was the first visit by the Dongguan Municipal Talent Office to Hong Kong to promote the city and attract talent since the pandemic. The event was hosted by the Dongguan Municipal Talent Office and co-organised by the Dongguan Municipal Youth League Committee and CityUHK.
