CCCL Director Professor Wang Jiangyu commented on the Chinese government’s response to Canada’s initiative of launching a non-binding declaration signed by 58 nations to denounce arbitrary detentions in an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore’s flagship Chinese newspaper. He observed that any move against using people as bargaining chips in state-to-state relations should be welcome but Canada’s moral high ground is also undermined by its detention of Chinese citizen Meng Wanzhou.
