Professor Wang Jiangyu, CCCL Director, explains the rationale behind China’s increasing interest in the instrumental use of international law in its foreign affairs. He argues that, in the past, China’s lack of understanding of the use of international legal tools has been at the cost of its national interest, even though China actually has a strong team of international law researchers.
