Professor Wang Jiangyu, RCCL Directors, commented on the stabilizing effect of the National Security Law newly adopted by China’s national legislature for Hong Kong, in a report of Lianhe Zaobao (聯合早報),Singapore’s Chinese newspaper. The National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) passed the law on 30 June 2020. Wang opined that the law, based on the Chinese government’s strong political will, might be able to generate political stability in Hong Kong but such stability will be desirable only when it also guarantees free enterprise, market economy and protection of rights.
