Professor Wang Jiangyu, RCCL Director, commented on China’s draft civil code in a report of the South China Morning Post (SCMP). He remarked that the new law would send a strong message to China’s private sector about Chinese government’s political will to protect private rights and property. This development was in contrast with the tightened political control in China. He observed that the key to enforcing the law is for Chinese courts to treat government bodies and state-owned enterprises as the same individual and private businesses in civil and commercial disputes.
