Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for Local Students
The Department of Electrical Engineering Entrance Scholarships
Regulations
With her Non-UGC Reserves, the Department of Electrical Engineering has agreed to establish an entrance scholarship scheme to the applicants entering the University through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) with effect from the 2018/19 academic year. The following regulations shall apply as of 2024/25:
- The Scholarships shall be known as “The Department of Electrical Engineering Entrance Scholarships”.
- A candidate must fulfil all the following criteria:
i. Entering through JUPAS on the basis of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) results obtained in the year of admission (i.e. 2024 JUPAS) and should have placed EE in the Band A of JUPAS choices.
ii. Enrolling as a full-time first-year undergraduate student undertaking a programme in the Department of Electrical Engineering.
iii. Having attained 5* or above in any ONE of the specified subjects in English, Mathematics, M1/M2, Information and Communication Technology, Physics. - A total amount of $100,000 is to set up the Scholarships which are in one-off nature, and is up to $10,000 each. When more than 10 candidates that satisfy the award criteria, the $100,000 will be equally shared by the candidates.
- The Scholarships shall be disbursed to the scholarship recipients by two installments. The first installment is payable after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester A by October of the first year; the second installment is payable after the completion of Year 1 and full payment of tuition fee for Semester A by October of the second year.
- The scholarship recipients are subject to achieving a minimum CGPA requirement of 3.2 and completion of 30 credit units at the end of Year 1 for releasing the second installment.
- The scholarship recipients of the “Institutional Scholarships” or the “Dean’s Scholarships” under the CityUHK Scholarships for Hong Kong Talents are NOT allowed to hold the EE entrance scholarship concurrently.
- Nominations by the Department of Electrical Engineering shall reach the Student Development Services by the end of September 2024.
- Confirmation on the renewal of the Scholarships and the amount of the scholarships for the next academic year will be sought from the Department of Electrical Engineering before July each year.
Remark
With an objective to nurture our students and to promote caring culture, the University encourages each award recipient to make an annual donation of HK$200 or more to the City University of Hong Kong for student support via CityUHK Alumni Giving Club when they are in employment after graduation. This term has been incorporated into all scholarship/prize/award/bursary schemes since February 2008.
