“SpinQ Cup”, also known as Greater Bay Area Quantum Computing Challenge Camp, is a nationwide competition aimed at programming quantum computing algorithms in China. It is co-organised by Shenzhen City Computer Federation, the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education and the Macao Computer Society, supported by SpinQ Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). On July 15, 2023, the second “SpinQ Cup” Quantum Computing Challenge Camp in Greater Bay Area was held at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen).
The Challenge Camp attracted participants from different regions and levels of education, and it had two tracks: open group and popular group. The open group was for anyone with a foundation in quantum computing, while the popular group was for undergraduates and below. Prof. Xin Sunny Wang, Associate Head and Associate Professor at CityU Physics, served as the Chief Judge of the event. He also gave a speech on the current status and future trends of quantum computing technology and shared his insights and experiences on quantum education and research.
Mr Jiahao Wu and Mr Quan Fu, two PhD students from CityU Physics, won the second place prize in the open group of the challenge camp. During the competition, participants were required to complete designated algorithm and circuit design tasks based on the SpinQit quantum programming language. The solutions were then tested by quantum computing software, and scoring was based on the execution results and quantum algorithm complexity.
The “SpinQ Cup” in Greater Bay Area is a valuable opportunity for quantum computing learners and practitioners to improve their skills and knowledge, as well as to function as a platform for fostering innovation and cooperation in the field of quantum computing in the Greater Bay Area. The event aims to promote the training and development of quantum computing talents, in line with the national and local policies to foster the quantum information industry. The outstanding performance of CityU Physics students reflects the high quality and level of CityU’s quantum education and research unswervingly. It also demonstrates CityU’s contribution to the development of quantum computing technology in Hong Kong and beyond.
